How to Apply
Energy Assistance uses the month prior to the applicant’s signature date for income verification.
Submit a fully completed Energy Assistance application.
Provide one month proof of all household income, such as pay stubs showing wages or a benefit award letter for Social Security.
If you receive MFIP, General Assistance, or unemployment benefits, provide documentation for the month prior to when you sign the application.
Applications are processed in the order they are received. It may take up to 90 days to review and process your application. During that time, contact your energy provider to schedule a reasonable payment plan.
If you are facing a disconnection or are already disconnected, please call 651-322-3500, option 1.
Additional Energy Support
Funds are available to help with repair or replacement of a “no heat” or malfunctioning heating system, including furnaces and boilers, for an owner-occupied home.
Any work must be authorized to CAP-appointed contractors to ensure service coverage, funding, and availability. Individuals must be eligible for Energy Assistance to receive this funding.
The Energy Assistance Program will not reimburse any households for furnace work not authorized or completed by one of our CAP-appointed mechanical contractors.
The Energy Assistance Program does not have funding for air-conditioning units. We are not authorized to work on, reimburse, or fund AC units.
For approved applicants, Energy Crisis Assistance is available for emergency situations, such as disconnection or shutoffs, seniors age 60 and older with past-due balances, or delivery of fuel for tanks with less than 20% of fuel remaining.
