Project Student Success

CAP Agency provides students of the families we serve with the tools they need for success in the classroom. Children are given a brand new backpack filled with supplies and books, packed by our community volunteers.

What if I don't use CAP Agency services or programs?

The backpack distribution takes place every year in August/September. Backpacks and school supplies are collected June – August. 

You must live in Scott, Carver, or Dakota County and have children in school (up to 12th grade). The program is open to current CAP clients.

Families sign up with CAP program staff. Sign-ups are now open for 2024! Please contact your CAP Agency program to enroll.

Pickups can be scheduled with the staff member with whom you signed up for the program beginning August 6th.

Unfortunately, we will not be able to assist unless we have extra backpacks after distribution. 

How To Support?

You can support our students for success by donating prepared backpacks to Project Student Success! The following is three ways in supporting Project Student Success:

DROP OFF

You can drop off the donation at CAP Agency location. Each backpack (bright colors or character backpacks always appreciated!) should contain the following items:

  • 3 notebooks
  • 1 pack of No.2 pencils
  • 1 pack of crayons and/or markers
  • 1 bottle of glue and/or glue sticks
  • 1 pack of black and/or blue pens
  • 1 pack of red pens
  • 2 erasers
  • 1 scissors
  • 1 ruler
  • 1 box of tissues
  • 2 packs of index (note) cards
  • Calculators
  • Sharpies
  • Highlighters
  • 5 subject notebooks
  • Dry erase markers
  • Posted notes

The final day to donate is August 5th. Donations can be dropped off any day at the CAP Agency Food Shelf on 738 1st Ave E, Shakopee. Contact Nate at [email protected] or 952-402-9853 to schedule a pick-up of your donated items by the CAP Agency van.

Sign up and make a difference by volunteering in our Project Student Success program!

Volunteer shifts include light lifting and walking in the food shelf warehouse and parking lot. Please wear casual clothing appropriate for the weather and comfortable shoes.

CAP Agency Shakopee
Monday, August 5th – 4:30 to 6:30 pm

Volunteers will pack and sort backpacks based on the grade of each student. This will be done with CAP staff and volunteers, no CAP clients will be present.
