Volunteer Spotlight: Maria Lambert

Our CAP Agency is so blessed by our volunteers! These wonderful people (hundreds of them) who donate their time (thousands of hours each year), and smiles (too many to count), while serving their neighbors are such an encouragement to our communities. Yes, they are a blessing!

Maria Lambert has been an energetic volunteer serving on our Food Shelf team for 15 years! “I retired on March 31st of 2009 and started volunteering for CAP just two months later – I think it was the very first week of May 2009,” said Maria.

How did she hear about CAP? “A wonderful friend, Betty Conroy, at my church (Shepherd of the Lake Lutheran Church in Prior Lake) was one of the longest-serving volunteers in the CAP Agency Thrift Store – she worked as a CAP volunteer into her 90’s, I think,” says Maria. “Well, my husband and I would pick her up and drive her to the Thrift Store for her volunteer shifts. Betty LOVED volunteering for CAP and her enthusiasm made quite an impression!”

Maria’s motivation to serve as a volunteer comes from the heart. “My childhood experiences taught me how important charitable agencies are to local families in need,” she says. “I’m so grateful for how others helped my family when we needed help.”

And Maria’s volunteer service isn’t just focused on the Food Shelf only. Each month she gathers 10 volunteers from her church to deliver meals to home-bound seniors throughout Prior Lake and Shakopee, as part of CAP’s Senior Nutrition program.

“Our clients are so appreciative and thankful for what we do on their behalf,” shares Maria. “Their expressions of gratitude are my favorite part of volunteering with CAP.”

The work we do at CAP assists and empowers individuals and families to achieve social and economic well-being in partnership with our community. For nearly 60 years, we have focused on meeting basic needs; creating accessible, high-quality education; and providing safe and stable housing and energy support.

“Definitely come join us as a volunteer on the Food Shelf team…we need donations and caring people to serve with us,” says Maria.

Please join us ( as we work TOGETHER (with wonderful volunteers like Maria Lambert) to Build a Better Future!
